About

Hagit Barkai is an assistant professor of art at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She received an MFA from Penn State University in 2008, a B.A. in Philosophy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2004, and studied drawing and painting at the Jerusalem Studio School in Jerusalem, Israel. Her work depicting psychological and emotional choices in public and private settings has been exhibited nationally and internationally in venues such as Scope International Art Fair in Miami Basel. Manifesta in Hasselt, Belgium; Kunsthalle Faust in Hannover, Germany; Praxis Gallery in NY, NY; Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, LA; Crane Arts in Philadelphia, PA; Fe Gallery in Pittsburgh PA; Froelick Gallery in Portland, OR; La Botanika in Houston, TX; The Cole Arts Center in Nacogdoches, TX; Greensboro Greenhill Gallery, and Greensboro Project Space in Greensboro NC. In Lafayette, she has exhibited in the Acadiana Center for the Arts, Lafayette LA, Hilliard Museum, Lafayette LA, and Basin Arts. Her work has been reviewed in various media such as Houston Chronicle, Portland Monthly, Carolina Art Crush, Herald Weekly, In the loop Magazine, Pittsburgh City Paper, NC Arts, Arts News, and Creative Loafing. She is the recipient of the Rising Star Award in the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Lafayette LA in 2022; the College Art Association Professional Development Fellowship in Visual Arts in 2008, and MFANow, The Next Generation of Painting International Competition in 2008.
